First, some background on me. I graduated with a degree in graphic design seven months ago, and have been a working designer in my first design job for about six months now. In addition to my education, I came into the design industry with a bit of production experience, mostly in software and digital imaging. I am also an artist - I've been making art (drawings, paintings, photography, mixed media) since childhood. These artistic leanings definitely inform my design sensibilities. But I can also be analytical and logical, traits that are valuable when it comes to communication and critical thinking.

This blog is not about my personal life. It's about starting a professional design career, and the things that happen along the way. This will include projects, work environment, design events, freelance jobs, and how being a designer is so different from being a design student. I'd like to remain fairly anonymous here, so I won't be disclosing specific details about where I live and work, or my favorite food, or even what I did for fun last weekend. Instead, let's talk about the fun life (and the times when it's not so fun) of a junior designer.

I welcome comments from anyone and everyone on these posts. Or if you'd rather, please contact me at jrdesignerblog@gmail.com with any questions or comments. Are you a junior designer with experiences to share? Got something you want me to post about? Questions about press checks or spot colors or white space or kerning? Or maybe you're a senior designer or art director with some valuable advice or funny stories? I would like this to be a community space where designers of all levels and disciplines can participate in discussions.
