I, Junior Designer

I'm beginning the "Junior Designer" blog with some general posts. First, some background on me. I graduated with a degree in graphic design seven months ago, and have been a working designer in my first design job for about six months now. In addition to my education, I came into the design industry with a bit of production experience, mostly in software and digital imaging. I am also an artist - I've been making art (drawings, paintings, photography, mixed media) since childhood. These artistic leanings definitely inform my design sensibilities. But I can also be analytical and logical, traits that are valuable when it comes to communication and critical thinking.

This blog is not about my personal life. It's about starting a professional design career, and the things that happen along the way. This will include projects, work environment, design events, freelance jobs, and how being a designer is so different from being a design student. I'd like to remain fairly anonymous here, so I won't be disclosing specific details about where I live and work, or my favorite food, or even what I did for fun last weekend. Instead, let's talk about the fun life (and the times when it's not so fun) of a junior designer.

I welcome comments from anyone and everyone on these posts. Or if you'd rather, please contact me at jrdesignerblog@gmail.com with any questions or comments. Are you a junior designer with experiences to share? Got something you want me to post about? Questions about press checks or spot colors or white space or kerning? Or maybe you're a senior designer or art director with some valuable advice or funny stories? I would like this to be a community space where designers of all levels and disciplines can participate in discussions.

Congratulations on your recent graduation and entrance to the design world! And it's good to see you've discovered the concept of sharing this new world through blogging. All the best, and thanks for your post on my blog (http://www.bradmccall.com/blog). Since you asked about questions we might have - I have one: What are they teaching these days in "Design School" about the web? about blogging? about Web 2.0? Do they address it, or do they still stick to the basics of Art History, Color Theory and Typography?
